Mentors – Post placement support for the worker
"Our task of placing and retaining indigenous workers in the workforce will not always be an easy one. You will be very aware that many employees new to the workforce have a variety of challenges they bring with them from unemployment. New workers will need to be supported as they adapt to a working life and should be encouraged as they cast off old and unhelpful habits. In helping Indigenous workers make the transition to a working life, mentors become the real heroes in the fight to overcome Indigenous disadvantage."
Andrew Forrest, Australian Employment Covenant
AEC Heroes are volunteer one on one mentors who provide support, encouragement and guidance to new Indigenous workers within the AEC employer’s workplace.
Over time, this support will assist the new worker develop both in their job and personally. It will be an informal relationship to enhance and encourage workplace performance. The mentor guides the new employee and increases the employee's self reliance.
Anyone can be a mentor as long as they have a big heart and a strong commitment to helping people.
