Participation in our GenOne video stories

17 September 2009

Last night in the Great Hall at Parliament House, Canberra, I had the privilege with Andrew Forrest to launch GenOne, an online movement to engage young people in the process of improving the lives of Indigenous Australians.

This was done at the 12th National Student Leadership Forum – and what an exciting environment in which to launch this great initiative.

GenOne is an online movement bringing all Australians together to work together to ensure our indigenous peoples and their culture prosper.

VISION
• To change the “welfare state” that has destroyed so many indigenous Australians
• To change the aspirations of Indigenous Australians
• To change the common perceptions of Indigenous Australians.
• To change government policy so that every dollar of government spending is directly linked to the only sustainable way out of poverty – a REAL JOB.

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW TO CHANGE OUR SOCIETY
We are asking all Australians to be a part of the solution.
GenOne is building an online community for anyone to be involved in if they want to see an end to Indigenous disparity.

Through our community you will be able to take practical actions through employment and support for Indigenous individuals and for all Australians to lobby for policy change.
Your participation could range from joining GenOne, spreading the word, sharing a story or contacting a political representative, through to organising local groups, speaking directly to politicians, workshops or outreach support to indigenous people in your community.

Be inspired to Have Your Say.
Your video story might show how your own school, college or community has addressed Indigenous issues or just how indigenous Australians want the system to change – from a hand out to a hand up – welfare to employment – welfare to wellbeing.

It may show an idea of how you think we can change the way we, or our governments address Indigenous issues;

It may simply be a statement about practical solutions.

WE NEED YOU TO INTRODUCE 10 PEOPLE TO WW.GENERATIONONE.ORG.AU
WHO EACH INTRODUCE ANOTHER 10
WHO EACH INTRODUCE ANOTHER 10

WE WANT YOU TO BUILD AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST ONLINE MOVEMENT –
WELFARE TO WELLBEING
